The province lies within the geographical region of Mesopotamia – the humid and lush landscapes in the northeast part of the country. It shares borders with the provinces of Chaco, Entre Rios, Santa Fe, Paraguay Misiones and the countries Brazil and Uruguay. Corrientes is delimited by the Paraná River to the north as well as the west and the Uruguay River to the southeast.
The Iberá Provincial Reserve (Esteros del Iberá) is an important ecotourism destination in Corrientes. The huge reserve with lakes and swamps is home to abundant wildlife including alligators, anacondas, capybaras and hundreds of bird species. Among the towns to stay in on your trip to Esteros del Ibera is the town Colonia Carlos Pellegrini. The province is also a famed destination for freshwater golden dorado fly fishing. Among the lodges (“estancias”) for this activity is the city of Esquina.

The capital city of the same name, Corrientes, lies on the eastern shore of the Paraná River. It is known for its stunning riverfront with beaches such as Playa Arazaty along the Paraná River, offering views of the magnificent General Manuel Belgrano Bridge. In the city you will see diverse architecture from colonial to modern. Among the other picturesque towns is Mburucuyá that hosts a national annual festival of the Chamamé folk music genre.
