The country of Honduras, formally the Republic of Honduras (República de Honduras) is situated in Central America. It has three neighbouring countries: Nicaragua in the southeast, Guatemala in the west and El Salvador in the southwest. In the north, Honduras is bathed by the Gulf of Honduras, an inlet of the Caribbean Sea, and in the south by the Gulf of Fonseca, on the Pacific Ocean.
North of the mainland lies the Bay Islands (Islas de la Bahía) - world-famous snorkeling and scuba-diving destinations, namely Roatán, offering excellent beaches and dive sites.
In Honduras you will see significant Mayan ruins namely at Copan Ruinas, colonial villages, seaside resorts on the beautiful Caribbean coast and abundant national parks such as Cusuco National Park, and the largest rainforest in Central America (Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve).
