Saudi Arabia (المملكة العربية السعودية) is a country in the Middle East that occupies around 80% of the Arabian Peninsula, the largest peninsula in the world, and is bathed by the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. Rivers and lakes are extremely rare to find, and due to its desert climate, it experiences extremely high temperatures during the day that drop dramatically at night.

It is commonly referred to as the birthplace of Islam. Although over 30% (expatriate community) of the 28 million people living in the country are of various faiths, officially all Saudi citizens are Muslims, as this is a compulsory condition for obtaining Saudi citizenship.

Often called ‘the Land of the Two Holy Mosques’, Saudi Arabia has the two most sacred Islamic mosques — Al-Masjid al-Haram, in Mecca, houses the Kaaba and is the high point of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, in Medina, is where the prophet Muhammad is buried.
