This live webcam feed shows the Alma Mater sculpture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which is located in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana in the state of Illinois, United States, as shown on the map further down the page.
The bronze sculpture portrays a woman (mother-figure) in academic robes standing in front of a klismos chair, arms open in welcome, with two additional statues representing "Labor" and "Learning."
The Alma Mater was created by American sculptor Lorado Zadok Taft and is named after the University's motto, "Learning and Labor.”
The granite base has three inscriptions, the first of which reads, "Alpa Mater/To thy happy children/of the future/those of the past/send greetings." On the left side, it says, "Given to the University/by the sculptor/the alumni fund/and the senior classes of/1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929." On the right, "her children arise and call her blessed."
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, founded in 1867, is a highly regarded public university.
