A gift from the French people commemorating the alliance between the two countries during the American Revolution. The statue has a total height of 305 feet, including the pedestal, which is another 154 feet tall. Its right hand holds a magnificent torch representing enlightenment, while its left hand holds a tablet with the date of the United States Declaration of Independence in Roman numerals: JULY IV, MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776).
