Belize District is situated in the east central part of the mainland, comprising also wonderful offshore islands namely Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker that are significant tourist destinations. Belize City is the country's former capital and its largest city. The urban scenery is split by the Haulover Creek with numerous bridges including the historical Swing Bridge.
