White Rock Pier, which has a length of 1,542 feet (470 metres) and can be seen on this 24/7 cam feed, is a major attraction in the city.

The city of "White Rock" was named after a 486-tonne granite white boulder that stands on the beach near the promenade. The rock was supposedly a glacial erratic that drifted south during the last ice age and turned white from seabird droppings; however, once it was given a name, the city painted it white.
