North Kivu is a province in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo bordering Lake Kivu. The capital, Goma, is on the shore of the lake, and a gateway to climb the Nyiragongo volcano. The city has been under continuous construction after it has been partially destroyed in 2002 by lava from the Nyiragongo.
