Cumbria’s capital is Carlisle, an ancient city with Carlisle castle a main attraction, and home to Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life.  The Settle to Carlisle Railway is a famed scenic railway in England, with views to the nature areas of the North Pennines, Eden Valley and Yorkshire Dales.  In Cumbria you will find the wonderful Lake District National Park with lakes, mountains and forests whose scenery inspired writers who lived here – known as the Lake Poets, part of the Romantic Movement. On the beautiful shores of the lake Derwentwater you will find beautiful market towns such as Lodore Falls, Keswick and Portinscale.
