Northern Savonia, or formally Pohjois-Savo, is a region in central Finland. It shares borders with the regions of Kainuu, North Karelia, North Ostrobothnia, Central Finland and Southern Savonia. Kuopio is the region’s largest city, beautifully surrounded by lakes from three sides, featuring beaches and delightful views. Kuopio is a cultural centre in the region, where outstanding festivals and numerous events take place. Other lake towns in the region include Iisalmi, with distinctive attractions such as the Runni Health Spa with Neulatammi natural massage streams, and the Olvi brewery. Northern Savonia is popular for Winter sports as well as other outdoor activities throughout the year, and home to the World Cup for Ski jumping. The resort town of Thako, is ideal for activities and leisure, in the midst of nature and by the water.
