The French region of Pays de la Loire is situated on the west side of the country, having the city of Nantes as its capital. Nantes is the economic hub in northwest France and is the 6th largest in the country. Pays de la Loire comprises five departments, two of them coastal, and has the longest river in France, the Loire. Seaside resort destinations include La Baule, Le Croisic and Sables-d'Olonne. The main port of the region is located in Saint Nazaire city, at the mouth of the Loire River. Inland, there are interesting historic towns, namely in the Loire valley, and rural departments where nature is the main attraction.
