Porto, also called Oporto, is Portugal’s second largest city, with over 230 thousand residents. Located on the banks of the Douro River, on the coast of Northern Portugal, its winters are mild and rainy, while the summer months are warmer and drier.

This trendy city is famous for its port wine, Rabelo boats and Douro River cruises. The area of Ribeira, with its typical houses, narrow streets and the Dom Luís I Bridge, is a great place to take a walk along the river — see for yourself on our Porto live cam.

Porto’s historical centre is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Baroque interior of the Gothic São Francisco Church and the Arab Room of the 19th-century Palácio da Bolsa, a former stock market, will most certainly impress you. Pay special attention when contemplating the tiles at São Bento Train Station, visit the Clérigos Church and get to the top of its tower to have an amazing panoramic view of the city. Take a walk on Avenida dos Aliados, have a picnic in the City Park and rest in the shade of the gardens of Palácio de Cristal and Fundação de Serralves, one of the best museums in Porto. The ultramodern Casa da Música is one of the most important concert halls in the city.

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport serves both the city and the North region, and offers public transportation (airport shuttle, taxis, metro and buses) that will take you to the city centre or to other northern cities. If you want, you can pick up your car rental right at the airport or have a transfer service waiting for you on arrival to take you to one of the many great hotels in Porto.
