Officially known as Hellenic Republic, Greece is a southeastern European country, strategically located between Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. It comprises thousands of islands and enjoys a mild, temperate climate, with wet winters and hot, dry summer months. With a total population of over 10 million inhabitants, almost everyone is Greek Orthodox, which belongs to the Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

Due to its importance in ancient times, classical Greece is considered the birthplace of Western civilisation and philosophy, as well as democracy and the Olympic Games.

The main tourist attraction of the capital, Athens, is the Parthenon, a temple on the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel. Delphi and Sparta ruins are other national landmarks to be visited.

Other main cities are Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion, Crete and Larissa. With its beaches on the islands of Crete, Mykonos, Santorini, Thassos or Corfu, this country is also a major holiday destination. Visit the webcams for live streaming views of Greece.
