The Ionian Islands Region (Περιφέρεια Ιονίων Νήσων) consists of a group of Greek Islands in the Ionian Sea, off the west coast of the mainland Greece. The major islands are Corfu, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada, Zakynthos and Paxi. The city of Corfu, on the island of Corfu, is the capital of the region. Corfu is a lively city offering so much to explore from its old town to numerous historic landmarks, Venetian architecture and top museums. The Ionian Islands are known for its sea caves, paradisiacal sandy beaches and clear waters.
