Heves is a county in the northern part of Hungary, located between the Mátra and Bükk mountains and the river Tisza. Although Heves is also the name of a small city in this county, the actual capital of the county is Eger. Some of the main towns include Gyöngyös, Hatvan, Füzesabony, Lőrinci and Verpelét.
Bordered by the counties of Pest, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Nógrád and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Heves county offers a wide geographical variety, being mountainous to the north (Bükk and Mátra mountain ranges) and flat to the south (Great Hungarian Plain).
