The county of Pest (Pest megye) is situated in the central part of Hungary, surrounding Budapest, the national capital. The county seat is in Budapest, even though the city is administratively separated.
A favourite tourist destination in Pest is the wonderful castle town of Visegrád in the Danube Bend with its famous medieval citadel. Pest has other beautiful towns such as Szentendre on the Danube River well known for its baroque architecture, colourful houses, and specially the huge Hungarian Open Air Museum (Szentendre Skanzen Village Museum), representing the original villages of the country, and its traditions.
Scenic villages are found in Pest including Zebegény, a historic place for a calm and interesting holiday. The county also offers beautiful natural areas with wildlife such as Budakeszi Wildlife Park and the Buda Landscape Protection Area, or the Buda Hills.
