Akureyri has a significant port of call in a sheltered harbour at Oddeyrin area, and from where boat tours to amazing places or whale watching are highly recommended when at this destination.
Around the city there are stunning landscapes to explore such as Dettifoss waterfall, Godafoss waterfall, Asbyrgi canyon, and the lake region of Mývatn.

Akureyri is just about 100 km (62 mi) from the Arctic Circle although it has a relatively warm climate as it is protected from winds by the mountains around.
