Iraq ( العراق , عێراق ), is a Western Asia country, with borders with Turkey (north), Iran (east), Kuwait (southeast), Saudi Arabia (south), Jordan (southwest), Syria (west), and a shoreline with a length of 58 km on the Persian Gulf (southwest). Iraq has a wealth of ancient landmarks throughout its territory, especially in cities such as Babylon and Nineveh, within the historical region of Mesopotamia, between the rivers of Tigris and Euphrates. The archaeological tourism is significant in Iraq – there are historical sites all over the country – for instance, in the capital Baghdad, famous buildings include the Abbasid Palace, and in Karbala Governorate there are two important shrines.
