It is set between the Southern Rhaetian Alps, in the north, and the Lombardian plains, in the south, and bound by the provinces of Cremona (south, southwest), Mantua (south), Verona (east) and Sondrio (north, northwest). This verdant province features impressive landscapes and beautiful lakes including Lake Garda with resorts on the shores such as Campione del Garda. Brescia is home to an important archaeological site - the stone carvings of Val Camonica which are the largest group of prehistoric petroglyphs in the world.
