The archipelago of Japan (日本) is located east of China, Korea and Russia, in the Pacific Ocean, and comprises 6,852 islands. It is a nation known for its modern, populated cities, its cuisine (sushi), natural beauty, hot springs (in Gunma), imperial monuments and thousands of temples. Shintoism, the native religion of Japan, based on the worship of nature and the ancestors, as well as Buddhism are the main religions, while Christianity is a minority.
With a total population of approximately 126 million inhabitants, Japan is one of the world’s most densely populated countries.
