Beppu is a popular spa town with over 2,000 onsen hot springs. It has beautiful scenery, such as Shidaka Lake and numerous parks, as well as numerous outdoor recreation opportunities. The surrounding mountain scenery is breathtaking, especially Mount Tsurumi, which can be reached by cable car.
The Beppu Tower, completed in 1957, stands an impressive 100 metres (328 feet) tall and offers expansive panoramic views from its 55-metre observation deck, the location of which is marked on the map below.
