Amman Governorate, formally known as Muhafazat al-Asima, is an administrative division of Jordan, which includes the country’s capital, Amman.
Amman features many ancient ruins, namely the historic Citadel set on a hill. Here you will find the famous Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace, the Jordan Archaeological Museum and other important structures. Amman is a modern and lively city featuring fine hotels, restaurants, and bustling markets. In Amman Governorate you will also find the Umm ar-Rasas, an archaeological site whose most significant discovery was the mosaic floor of the Church of St Stephen.
