Akmola Region (Ақмола облысы, Акмолинская область) is situated in the central-northern part of Kazakhstan. It encloses the country’s capital, although Astana is politically separated from the region. The city centre of Shchuchinsk is increasingly appealing to visitors, as well as the beautiful landscapes of green mountains, the national nature parks of Kokshetau and Burabai (very rich in wildlife), lake beaches and resorts. Besides the natural features, this region has plenty of historical and archaeological monuments to show.
