One of Kenya’s 47 counties is Laikipia, whose capital is Rumuruti. Located in the Kenyan highlands, just a few kilometres north of the Equator, it includes two main urban areas — Nanyuki (southeast) and Nyahururu (southwest). The county’s economy is based on agriculture and tourism, mainly due to its natural resources, such as indigenous forests, rivers and wildlife, including hippos, elephants, giraffes and buffalos, which can be seen during a safari or through live streaming HD cameras.

Population: Around 399,000 inhabitants

Main attractions: Laikipia Plateau Reserve, Thomson’s Falls, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Mpala Research Centre

Nearest Airports: Nanyuki Airfield (NYK) is the county’s domestic airport in Nanyuki. The closest international airport is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Kenya’s largest airport. You can hire a car and pick up your vehicle at the airport.
