The state of Baja California Sur, in Mexico, occupies the south part of the Baja California Peninsula, between the Pacific Ocean (west) and the Gulf of Mexico (east). La Paz is the state capital, a coastal attractive city with stunning waterfronts and top beaches. Off the coast there are a few islands including Isla Espíritu Santo, well worth a visit! In this state, is the major wildlife refuge in Mexico- El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve, with the gray whales a major attraction. In fact, Baja California Sur offers you memorable whale watching tours, such as in San Ignacio Lagoon and Magdalena Bay. On the southern part there are the resort towns of San José del Cabo featuring an historic district and art galleries, and Cabo San Lucas with its famous "El Arco", both towns with wonderful beaches such as Médano Beach.
