The state of Nayarit is situated in the west part of Mexico, on the Pacific coast. Riviera Nayarit offers fabulous resort towns, delightful beaches such as Nuevo Vallarta Beach and colonial history. The uninhabited Marieta Islands are ecologically diverse, a bird sanctuary and famous for an incredible beach inside a crater. The capital, Tepic, is on the banks of Río Tepic and dominated by two volcanic peaks. This city has a picturesque charm, a preserved downtown and parks. Nearby is the stunning Santa María del Oro lagoon, set in a volcanic crater.
