The province of Friesland (or Frisia) is located in the northwest part of the Netherlands, south of the North Sea and northeast of North Holland. Most of its territory is on the mainland, although it also includes some West Frisian Islands, namely Vlieland, Ameland, Schiermonnikoog and Terschelling, that have a ferryboat connection to the mainland. The highest point in the province can be found on Vlieland island, at an altitude of 45 metres.
