Setúbal District is situated in the southwest coast of Portugal. The most part of the district lies in the Setúbal Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean, with the River Tejo to the north and the mouth of the Sado River to the south.
Setúbal is south of Portugal's capital, Lisbon, and the district of Santarém, west of Évora and north of Beja. The seat of the district is Setúbal, an attractive port city with an historic centre, numerous museums and a lovely waterfront. From Setúbal harbour there are regular ferries to Tróia Peninsula, famous for its wonderful sand beaches. The city of Costa da Caparica is a top holiday resort in Portugal. It features an extensive strip of outstanding sand beaches such as Fonte da Telha Beach.
