Novosibirsk Oblast (Новосиби́рская о́бласть) is an oblast, or federal subject, of Russia situated in the southeast part of Siberia. The oblast is in the West Siberian Plain, thought to be the world’s largest unspoiled lowland, counting with the huge Vasyugan swamp. Numerous lakes are found in Novosibirsk Oblast as well as mineral waters reserves. Novosibirsk Oblast is one of the most industrially advanced regions in Siberia.
The administrative centre is the magnificent city of Novosibirsk set on the banks of the Ob River. Novosibirsk grew in the 19th century with the Trans-Siberian Railway, and it is today the third most populated city in Russia, with over 1.6 million citizens in 2018. The city offers numerous attractions including the world-renowned Novosibirsk Zoo. At the riverfront there are numerous recreation opportunities such as the indoor water park Akvamir, and large parks with playgrounds and amenities. Novosibirsk is a cultural hub with outstanding monuments, museums and theatres. Tourists will find here great dining options, hotels and public transportation.
