The online webcams will take you to Omsk Oblast (О́мская о́бласть), situated in southwestern Siberia, Russia. It is a federal subject (oblast) bordering Kazakhstan in the south, Tomsk and Novosibirsk oblasts in the east, and Tyumen Oblast in the north and west.
The region is entirely flat plains on the basin of the Irtysh River, featuring vast marshes, swampy forests in the north and countless lakes.
Most towns are small in comparison to Omsk, the capital city, which has a population of over one million people.
Omsk is located on the Irtysh and Om rivers and features grand architecture in buildings and monuments from various eras. Among these landmarks are the massive Dormition Cathedral, which incorporates designs from Russian and Byzantine medieval architecture, as well as the Omsk fortress from the 1700s.
Fine monuments and sculptures, interesting museums, and beautiful gardens and riverfronts can be found throughout the city.
Omsk Oblast visitors enjoy cruising, rafting, and canoeing along the Irtysh, Tara, and Shish rivers. The region has excellent transportation links, particularly via the Trans-Siberian Railway.
