The administrative centre is in Perth, a city beautifully located along the River Tay in central Scotland. It is known as the Fair City, a lively cosmopolitan urban area between two extensive public parks. In Perth, you will see a diversity of remarkable monuments, gardens, art galleries and museums including Perth Museum & Art Gallery and the Fergusson Gallery. Among the must-see historical buildings are the Scone Palace and Castle Balhousie.
Just east of Perth is Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park with five hills and dramatic cliffs. It is the oldest woodland park of Scotland with numerous marked paths and opportunities for cyclists and horse-riders. If you really enjoy hiking, the Cateran Trail is a well-marked 64-mile (103 km) circular route along diverse landscapes.
Perth and Kinross has a few refreshing lochs such as the Loch of the Lowes with wildlife, a nature reserve managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. Other natural wonder is Glen Lyon, often called "An Crom Ghleann", the longest enclosed glen in the country.
