The Region Prešov (Prešovský kraj) is an administrative division in Slovakia, situated in the east part of the country. This region offers superb landscapes of the Tatra Mountains - the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains - very popular for hiking and skiing. The High Tatras, of alpine type, is almost entirely within the region featuring splendid mountain lakes, high peaks and rare wildlife. Poprad is the main “entrance” to the High Tatras, a distinctive city with significant buildings namely the 13-century church of St. Egidius. In the capital, Prešov - the third largest city in Slovakia - you will find historic buildings of Gothic, Baroque and Rococo architecture, with the magnificent 14th-century Co-Cathedral of Saint Nicholas standing out.
