Žilina Region (Žilinský kraj) is in the north part of Slovakia, bordering the regions of Trenčín (southwest and west), Banská Bystrica (south), and Prešov (east), Czech Republic and Poland (north and west). Žilina is a mountainous region, part of the Western Carpathians, with natural beauties including water reservoirs, river valleys and caves. The mountain ranges of Západné Tatry and Nízke Tatry are excellent for hikers and cyclists. For skiing there are plenty of options available and for a relaxing holiday Žilina Region has excellent aquaparks with geothermal waters such as in Bešeňová village.
