The province of Castellón (or Castelló) is in eastern Spain, in the northern part of the Region of Valencia. Castellón is famed for its attractive Mediterranean coast - Costa del Azahar. There are numerous beach destinations along this coast including the towns of Benicàssim, Oropesa del Mar and Peñíscola. Castellón is a mountainous province with nature inland worth visiting as well as the Columbretes Islands, of volcanic origins. The province's capital, Castellón de la Plana, is a coastal city with a part of the Desert de les Palmes mountain range to the north. Historical buildings around the main square (Plaça Major) comprise the old town in the capital. Castellón is popular for its music festivals and annual festivities.
