The canton of Bern is an administrative division situated in west-central Switzerland, whose capital is the city of Bern, which is also the de facto capital of the country. Bern is an attractive city on the Aare River, featuring a Unesco World Heritage–listed Old Town, and an easy-going environment. The region is dominated by landscapes of mountains, valleys, lakes and rivers. The Bernese Orland, the north part of the Bernese Alps, is a favoured tourist destination featuring amazing mountain views, numerous cable cars and trails. The resort town of Interlaken between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz is a wonderful place to enjoy a holiday, with scenic panoramas around. In the Bernese Alps, the highest railway in Europe takes passengers to Jungfraujochn saddle.
