The urban township of Xihu, or Sihu Township, is a long-established farming village with famous local foods such as the Kyoho grape and dishes such as the lamb hotpot.
Once, Xihu was a significant hub for sugar manufacturing during Japanese rule. The heritage of this period is seen at the old Xihu Sugar Refinery, which was preserved and established as a recreation area and tourist attraction. The town's railway system was built in response to the need for sugar transportation; evidence of this fact is the old sugar train, which has been transformed into a tourist attraction where you can enjoy a 7-kilometre tour in the 60-year-old locomotive.
