Connecticut is a state of the United States situated in the south part of the New England region. Connecticut shares borders with the states of Massachusetts to the north, Rhode Island to the east, New York to the west and Long Island Sound, a tidal estuary of the Atlantic Ocean, to the south. The capital city of Hartford, in the geographical centre of the state, is home to Mark Twain House and Museum, a National Historic Landmark. Other must see site is Wadsworth Atheneum, housing a vast European Art collection from the medieval to the modern period.
In the village of Mystic you will find Mystic Seaport, the largest maritime museum in the United States showing the history of once a leading seaport in the region. West of Mystic, the coastal town of New London offers the states best salt-water beach and the wonderful Ocean Beach Park.
In the city of New Haven, Yale University has excellent museums to visit including the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History with excellent exhibits and dioramas on natural environments, human origins and evolution.
Connecticut River flows through the centre of the state, which has numerous streams and inland lakes. Lakeside towns such as Winchester enjoy great public beaches and water activities.
