The U.S. state of Mississippi is in the southern part of the United States, bordering the states of Tennessee (north), Alabama (east), Arkansas and Louisiana (west) with the Mississippi River along the west border. This state, known for its contribution to the blues music, is composed of six main cultural regions - the Delta - where it was originated the Delta Blues, one of the earliest styles of blues, the Red Clay Hills - with Jackson, the state capital, the Appalachian Foothills, the Black Prairie, the Piney Woods and the Gulf Coast. In this last region you will find the Gulf Island National Seashore, with recreational opportunities, excellent sandy beaches, stunning barrier islands to enjoy and the historic Fort Massachusetts, on West Ship Island.
