This high-definition streaming webcam shows the entrance to the Mitchell Corn Palace, a major tourist attraction as well as a multi-purpose sports arena and music venue in Mitchell City, South Dakota, United States.
"The World's Only Corn Palace" was built to honour corn farmers and features a Moorish Revival-style structure. Mitchell is a prairie town surrounded by cornfields. Every year, the building is covered in new murals and designs made of corn and other grains.
The idea of a structure covered in corn dates back to the late 1800s, when a few cities on the Great Plains built "crop palaces" in order to advertise themselves and their goods. The current Corn Palace, shown on the map further down the page, was built in 1921, making it the town's third permanent corn palace.
