Texas is a southern state of the U.S., bordering Mexico to south. Although it is often thought that Texas has substantial desert areas, they actually correspond to less than 10% of the state, over its west mountainous side. In fact, there are plenty of inland waters, such as Canyon Lake, and outstanding coastline sites, as Galveston Island Pier. The population is concentrated in the cities (so there are large metropolitan areas, as Greater Houston, Dallas- Fort Worth and the city of San Antonio), in the countryside, in meadows, in large fields, in former forested terrains and in the coastline to the Gulf of Mexico.
